Pickerel Weed (pontedaria cordata)

This is an amazing edible aquatic plant. It will grow right out of the mud on the edges of ponds and streams. Pickerel weed flowers all summer long from June through September providing copious amounts of nectar for pollinators.

Pickerel weed has different edible parts. The young leaves and stems can be eaten as cooked greens, and the seeds can be eaten raw or toasted. I have read accounts of people grinding the seeds into a nutritious flour.

Pickerel weed is native across the U.S. It will grow out of the muddy bank and out to water 2ft. deep

Our seed is gathered fresh from the ponds and immediately packed into damp sand. It never has a chance to dry out which improves germination.
