Milkweed
Milkweed Asclepias Syriaca
Milkweed is a beautiful tough perennial edible plant with an abundance of uses. It is most widely known for its connection to the Monarch Butterfly. As the monarchs travel along their migration routes between the northern U.S. and southern Mexico, they rely on finding patches of milkweed along their way. Modern agriculture and the American lawn have made their journeys increasingly difficult.
Milkweed is not hard to grow. It is drought tolerant and competitive with weeds and grasses. Its hypnotic flowers provide nectar to many species of pollinators. It is also a choice wild edible vegetable at several stages of its growth.

Stunning milkweed with bright pink flowers. Absolutely a powerhouse for feeding pollinators. There are not many plants we’ve observed that generate more activity when blooming. Readily used by monarchs.
