Hybrid Chestnut Castanea Spp.

Hybrid Chestnuts- Highly disease resistant, hardy to at least -25f, collected from our orchards here in upstate NY, zone 5. Complex hybrids of c. dentata, c. mollisima, and c. crenata. Our Chestnut plantings have some of the most diverse genetics available anywhere with excellent blight resistance. They are the result of many different strains coming together for over a century through the work of breeders like Arthur Graves, Brian Caldwell, Sandra Anagnostakis, and many others.

Sweetheart Chestnut- 50/50 American and Chinese Chestnut. Originally bred by the Wild Turkey Federation. This has been a beautiful and productive strain for us. Healthy trees, small-medium sized tasty nuts.

Timber Chestnut- Predominantly American genetics, also containing some European, Japanese, and Chinese. Most of our timber trees are about 85% American chestnut. These trees are bred to be blight resistant, survive in a forest canopy and produce high quality timber. Chestnut wood is prized for its durability, beauty, and ease of working with. Not all trees will be blight resistant and not all will have timber form, but most will.
