Pears
Pears are incredible, powerful, beautiful, productive, and long lived trees. We have been growing dozens of varieties here on our farm.
Krazulya- Extremely hardy and considered one of the best tasting of all pears. Krazulya is the Russian word for beauty, fruits ripen early and have a striking red blush. Bred in Russia and hardy to zone 3, possibly zone 2. Extremely disease resistant.
Larinskaya- Another new Russian variety with extreme cold hardiness, worth trying in zone 2. Not too sweet, not too tart, Larinskaya has received very high scores in flavor and is very productive.
Nova- Self fertile, highly disease resistant with great flavor when green and when fully ripened yellow. Hardy through zone 4 at least.
Ubileen- Large sweet pear with yellow skin and red blush, early ripening selection from Bulgaria. Ubileen is a top rated variety for disease resistance and outstanding flavor.
Burford- Excellent European pear with good disease resistance and flavor. Good for fresh eating, canning, and perry. This is probably the most vigorous of all the pear varieties we have tested, but reportedly is a natural dwarf topping out at 16-20 feet naturally.
Bosc- An old variety originating from Belgium, familiar and found in grocery stores. Bosc has very good flavor with a cinammon brown russeted skin. Very productive and reliable, fairly disease resistant but susceptible to scab in some locations.
D’Anjou- An old variety from Belgium or France, commonly found in grocery stores. Great flavor with a hint of citrus. Good disease resistance and productivity
Meigetsu- Very sweet Asian pear, tan skin with firm sweet juicy flesh. Moderate resistance to fireblight. A vigorous and productive variety
