Horseradish

Horseradish is an incredibly tough perennial in the mustard family with a very deep root system that can penetrate the densest hardpans. For being able to harvest roots it is best to grow in a deep loam or in a raised bed. Shred the roots to make a sauce that blows grocery store sauces out of the water, or add the leaves to your stir frys as a spicy mustard green. Horseradish is one of the easiest plants to grow on Earth. It will come back year after year even with thorough harvesting.

Root cuttings are very easy to gow. Plant near the surface of the soil and keep covered with a light mulch.
